DEWHURST MIRIAM

Miriam Dewhurst
May 20, 1923 ~ March 11, 2013
It is with sadness that the family of Miriam Dewhurst announces her passing on March 11, 2013 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. Miriam was born in Windemere, England on May 20, 1923. She married Edward (Ted) Dewhurst on November 8, 1945 in England, then came to Canada on July 23, 1946 on the Queen Mary, with hundreds of war brides. Mom and Dad settled in Prince Albert raising their three daughters, Dorothy, Evelyn and Barbara. In 1954 they moved to the farm south of Prince Albert, which they both loved. Mom continued to live on the farm until January 3, 2013 when she became ill. Mom and Dad raised Charlois cattle, later having a herd of Jersey cows. They also had a kennel and boarded dogs and raised purebred German Sheppard dogs along with several other breeds. After dad’s passing, mom travelled the world and really enjoyed herself! Mom was a very active member of the PA Kennel Club. She showed her prize dogs and won many trophies. She was also an active member of the A.C.W. Mom was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed by her daughters, Dorothy Cholewa, Evelyn (Mike) Podborochynski and Barbara (Robert) Sluchinski all of Prince Albert; 5 grandchildren, Cheryl (Derek) Brecht, Lynn (Tal) Schmidt, Lori (Derrick) Gagnon, Greg Sluchinski and Tracy Podborochynski; 6 great grandchildren, Sophie and Kian Brecht; Camdyn and Tobin Schmidt, and Tyson and Boston Gagnon; in-laws, June Dewhurst of Prince Albert and Don Vold of Abbotsford, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward (Ted) Dewhurst; son-in-law, Victor Cholewa; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 1:30 PM at St. Alban’s Cathedral, 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent, Prince Albert. There will be a time of visitation between 12 and 1.15pm on Saturday prior to the Funeral. A family interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery at a later date. Our family would like to thank Dr. Halyk and the nursing staff at Victoria Hospital for the wonderful care given to mom. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Miriam may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Diabetes Association or the Victoria Hospital Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Hawryluk Funeral Home. 922.6611. Online condolences to the family may be sent to www.hawrylukfuneralhome.com
