Catherine Louise Thomas, 77, of Cemetery Road, Pictou Landing First Nations, passed away March 15, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pictou Landing, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Mary (Julien) Francis.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church.
Catherine was a Residential School survivor. She was a former Councillor for the Pictou Landing First Nations Band as well as a Community Health Representative and Alcohol and Drug Councillor.
Catherine enjoyed travelling and attending First Nations gatherings. She loved immersing herself in various craft activities. She will always be remembered and dearly missed by all.
Catherine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Robert, Little Harbour, and Melanie, Pictou Landing First Nations; brothers, John Leroy Francis, Afton; David Knockwood, Pictou Landing First Nations; great-grandchildren: Shae, Nathen, Ocean, Trish, Jake, Cheyenne and Fox; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Roland Michael Thomas; a daughter Patricia Ann; a grandson Ian Thomas; a brother Stephen Francis; sisters, Janet Martin and Rachel Francis.
Her remains are resting in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nations, for visiting on Wednesday after 2 p.m., from where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Donations in memory of Catherine may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
