Born: November 27th, 1925

Passed on: March 18th, 2013

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, Ol Da, Goofy and Juice, Garfield Anthony ‘Garf’ Boutilier. Garf passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Northside General Hospital on Monday, March 18, 2013.
Garf was born on Nov. 27, 1925, in Little Pond. He was the son of the late Bert and Theresa (MacNeil) Boutilier.
Garf worked for many years on the CN Marine boats until his retirement in 1990.
Garf was known for his quick wit, his humour and his ability to turn his hand to just about anything he could imagine. He was an avid boxing fan and was known for being a devoted fan of the Little Pond Pistons baseball team. He enjoyed four-wheeling, Newfoundland music and maintaining the backyard rink his children and grandchildren enjoyed so much. Nothing brought Garf more joy than spending time down home with his family seated around the kitchen table.
Garf is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sadie (Nunn) and their children, Donna Coady, Debby (Sandy Jardine), Marcy (Billy Unsworth), Wendy McMullin (Carl Gardner), Nancy (Dave Balah), Irene (Les Ferguson), Gary (Cynthia), Cindy (Greg Leblanc) and Paul (Gayle). He will be forever cherished by his grandchildren, Michael, Angela, Nikki, Jason, Sara Beth, Allyson, Peter, Geralyn, Michelle, Josh, Jordan, Jessica, Benjamin, Garrett, Erin, Kenneth, Brent, Brandon and Hannah and great-grandchildren, Michael, Kiara, Charlie, Julia, Emily, Megan, Madison and William. Garf is survived by his siblings, sister Agnes Currie, brother, Lawrence; sister-in-law, Mae; and numerous nieces and nephews. Garf is also survived by his little buddy, Blackie, who was always faithfully by his side.
Besides his parents, Garf was predeceased by siblings, Sidney, Johnny, Hector, Stanley, Cassie and son-in-law, Jed McMullin.
Visitation for Garf will be held at Francis Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, March 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Verne Boutilier and Fr. Thomas John officiating. A reception will be held following the mass.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Northside General Hospital, especially Debi Osbourne, for their care and compassion. We would also like to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer and Wilda and Mary for being so good to him over the years.
Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Northside Hospital Foundation or charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
