Linda (Maye) Aitken

Passed away on March 17, 2013 peacefully after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s, Linda (Maye) Aitken at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood. She was 72 years of age. Linda retired from teaching at Memorial Academy in Botwood, and was a member of the Botwood Lioness Club and the St. James Anglican Church. She was predeceased by her parents: Harry and Bertha; beloved step-mother Vera; mother and father-in-law John and Nina Aitken and her precious Aunt Mary Ball of Deer Lake. She leaves to mourn her husband Robert (Bob) Aitken; son Kent (Jennifer); brother-in-law John (Denise); sisters: Gloria Lalond, Sheila (Bob) Hanley, Linda Combden; brother Kent (Christine) May; grandchildren: Will and Sophie and a circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Larry Chatman conducted the funeral service at St. James Anglican Church, Botwood, on Thursday, March 21, 2013. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were Doug Edison, Bob Hannaford, Owen Nichols, Melvin Torraville and two of Linda’s “boys” Stephen Menchenton and Neil Ollerhead (close friends of Kent). Honorary pallbearers were: John Aitken and Frank Dominie. Organist was Honor Dominie. Cremation will take place and a private family ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to the St. James Anglican Church or the Alzheimer’s Society.
