It is with heavy hearts, we the family wish to announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Sunday, March 24, 2013, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Myrna, the eldest daughter of the late Roy and Ila (Horton) Gormley, was born in Montague, P.E.I. on Sept. 4, 1948.
She will be dearly missed by husband, Leonard; children, Christopher (Cheryl MacDonald), Kelli (Gerard MacNeil), Chad (Bobbi) and her grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, Megan, Marcy, Evan, Lucas and Neely. Myrna’s life was centered on her family. They were the inspiration and hope that made each day possible. Myrna is also survived by her siblings, Felix, P.E.I; Kevin, Calgary; Mary (Brian Petrie), New Victoria; Cathy (Martin White), Glace Bay; Helen (Freeman Lynk), Glace Bay; April, Calgary; Michael (Debbie), Glace Bay; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Myrna was predeceased by her brother, Barry and her infant sister, Marilyn.
Myrna was a long-time employee of East Coast Credit Union, Port Hawkesbury Branch where she will be remembered for her dedication and sense of responsibility towards meeting the needs of the membership and her co-workers.
Throughout her battle with ovarian cancer, which began in 2002, Myrna showed a deep, courageous spirit while maintaining her great sense of generosity and consideration of others.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury, N.S., on Thursday, March 28, from 6-8 p.m., with vigil service at 6 p.m. and Friday, March 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Fr. Andrew Boyd officiating. After the service refreshments will be served in the parish hall. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to EIBI Autism Program or to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society, Evanston, N.S.
