Darrel Carty, 71, Amherst, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Darrel was born in Malagash to the late Mike Carty and Mable (Carty) Drummond.
Darrel worked as a meat cutter for many years, retiring at Sobeys in Amherst. Darrel belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion and Air Force Club in Amherst, where he enjoyed playing darts and dancing. Darrel was kind and friendly, with a dry sense of humour. He had many hobbies, especially making washer toss games. Darrel enjoyed his Sunday suppers at the farm in Wyndham Hill.
He is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Dea Holden; son, Kenneth (Carol) Carty, and daughter, Lori-Anne (Mark) Smith, both of Kingston, ON; sisters, Peggy Halverson and Penny (Gord) Brownell, both of Tatamagouche; brother, John (Gwen) Drummond, Malagash; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Keith Halverson. Cremation is entrusted to MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930). Committal will be at a later date.
