David Coon

David Raymond Coon, age 65, of Springhill, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his residence. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late John Angus and Georgina (Phalen) Coon.
In earlier years David worked as an electrician and later for Correctional Service Canada, retiring after 31 years of service. He was very involved in the community of Springhill, serving as Town Counselor, Chairman of the Police Commission, and was an active member of the Springhill Mining Heritage Society. David was a lifetime member of All Saints Anglican Church and served as Warden of the Church and as a Vestry Man. David enjoyed spending time with family at the cottage during the summer and attending his grandchildren's sporting events during the winter months. He could always be found having coffee with friends on his front step after supper.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, the former Wanda Canning; daughters, Cathy (Mark), and Carolanne (Dave), both of Springhill; Tina (Casey) of New Glasgow, NS and Cindy (Scott) of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; grandchildren, Brad, Brittany, Brianna, Tori, Alex, Wyatt, and Madelyn; sister, Carole (Joe) Abraham, Bramalea, ON; brother, Harold Coon of Montreal, PQ; several cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as longtime friend Jim Nodwell.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Gary and nephew, Jason Abraham.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). Family and friends are invited to a funeral service on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11 AM, held from the All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill, Rev. Tori Byrne officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. Family flowers only, those wishing to make a donation in memory of David may do so to Lupus Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
