Margaret Kavanagh
Born In: Edinburgh
Passed on: April 25th, 2013
Margaret Kavanagh, 91, Hammonds Plains, formerly of Dominion, died April 25, 2013.
Born in Edinburgh, Margaret was the youngest child of the late William and Mary Gray. Margaret's mother died when she was six months of age and she was taken in by her step-parents, the late Jock and Sarah Johnstone. She attended school in Edinburgh and worked as a grocer, seamstress, and in an aircraft factory during the war.
In 1943, she married Frank Kavanagh, a Newfoundland volunteer in the British Navy. Margaret and Frank moved from Edinburgh to Cape Breton in 1954. Having lost contact with siblings as a child, she became close to her sister, Sadie, in later years. Though she left Edinburgh 60 years ago, she never lost her strong accent or fond memories of hame. Margaret was an avid reader, music lover, club member, and bird feeder.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by sisters, Isa, Catherine, Mary and Sadie; brother, Robert; stepsister, Agnes; husband, Frank and granddaughter, Sarah.
She is survived by daughters, Frances (James Chiasson), Port Hawkesbury, Margaret (Chuck MacLennan), Ottawa, Eilleen (Bruce Warren), Oakville, and Janis (Roy Farrow), Halifax; son, David (Margaret MacInnis), Halifax; grandchildren, Darrin, Stephen and Nicole Chiasson, David and Christopher MacLennan, Amy and Claire Warren, Daniel, Jane, Kate, and Mary Ann Kavanagh and eight great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. Interment at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Dominion.
