Dorothy Keith

KEITH, DOROTHY JANE - It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Jane Keith (nee Pond) announces her passing at her home in Fredericton on May 3, 2013. Born in Fredericton on November 13, 1927, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Addison Pond and the late Chloe Alexander. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Donald S. Keith; sister, Myrtle Jardine (Pond); and four brothers, Clinton Pond, Russell Pond, George Pond and Walter Pond. She is survived by her seven children, Donald H. Keith (Janice) of Edmonton, Judy Loukes (David) of Fredericton, Patsy MacFarlane of Moncton, K. Gregory Keith (Jane) of Sussex, Peter Keith (Sharlene) of Fredericton, Elsa Holland (Jerry) of Yoho and Kenneth Keith (Colette) of Saint John; brother, Guy Alpheus Pond of Yuma, Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kim Chase of Yoho and Albert Broome of Fredericton. Dorothy was a graduate of the Newcastle High School and Atlantic Business College in Fredericton. She began her working career at the Royal Bank in Fredericton and retired as the Accounts Clerk at the Kingsclear Reformatory. She took 21 years of unpaid leave from 1949 to 1970 to raise seven children. She often joked that it was her most difficult, but greatest achievement. Her rewards for her efforts were her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her love and passion for her family, she loved to play bridge, garden, knit, sew and watch hockey, especially Sid the Kid (Sydney Crosby).
There will be no visitation by request. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm from York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Dorothy, the family has suggested the Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, or a charity of the donor's choice.
