Allan Norman Power

Allan Norman Power

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Allan Norman Power, age 60, Bass River, and formerly of Truro, announce his passing on Sunday, May 05, 2013, in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, from complications of COPD. Allan, son of the late Margaret and Harold (Casey) Power, passed away peacefully holding hands with his wife and best friend, Bev, surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.
Well known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Allan was once described by a co-worker as “everyone’s friend and a friend to all.” An avid gardener, Allan was passionate about and known for his beautiful perennial gardens. Allan was a loyal friend who loved children and animals. Referring to himself as a late bloomer, Allan married after his 50th birthday and purchased his first home shortly afterward. In his younger years, Allan enjoyed and was involved in sports, especially softball, ball hockey, and golf, and caddied for his mother and father. Allan also enjoyed a life-long love of music ranging from the Blues of Etta James to the hard rock of Kiss, and to the country music of George Strait.
Of all of his many accomplishments, Allan was most proud of his role as caregiver to his grandson, James Robert, during the first 5 years of his life. From the time he could walk, Allan and James Robert could be seen making their daily journey from the East end of Town to the homestead on Park Street in the West end of Town, joined at each other's wrist by a pretty pink lead. He loved “the baby boy” dearly, and was a positive influence on his life.
In addition to his loving wife Bev Schurman-Power, Allan is survived by his brother-in-law Doug Bolton, husband of his late sister Wanda; brothers Eddie and his wife Bonnie; Jimmy; Donald (Casey) and his wife Karen; Greg and his wife Janice; David and his wife Colleen; Robert and his wife Shelley; sisters Debbie and her husband Dave Geldart; Sandy and her husband Mike Claydon; Peggy and her fiancé Eldon (Spud) Arsenault, and their families; his many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud; his 4-legged children, “the big boy” German Shepherd Charlie, and “the little girls”, Shih Tzu’s Maggie and Fannie, and many dearly-loved friends by whom he felt very blessed. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Wanda Bolton, and nephew Jamie Power.
To honor his love of animals and his concern for the well-being of children, donations to the Colchester Branch of the SPCA, the IWK, or the Children’s Wish Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8th, from 1-2 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 .m. with, Pastor Steve Adams officiating, both at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS. A Celebration of Life will be held following the memorial service at the Air Force Club, Cottage Street, Truro.
Bev and the entire family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Sarge Singh for the years of friendship and care, the exceptional Nursing staff and Respiratory staff of the ICU and the entire Palliative Care team, doctors, nurses, volunteers, Ann McKim and Michelle Rigby for the loving care and comfort of Allan, and our entire family and friends. We could not have asked for better.
Live webcasting of the service will begin at 1:58 p.m. (Atlantic Time) and is available along with on-line condolences and donations at: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
