MARY McEWAN (nee Grove)

MARY McEWAN (nee Grove)

Mary ended her journey on March 13 with the same quiet strength and dignity that highlighted her life. Predeceased by her husband of 41 years Jim McEwan, brother Ted Grove, sisters Audrey Nygard and Carrol Williamson.
Mary leaves daughter Cheryl, son Jim (Shelley), grandchildren Tai, Shawna and Jim and great-granddaughters Madelyne and Evelyn to cherish countless wonderful memories.
Born in 1931, Mary was always proud of her family heritage.  Her grandparents, John and Lucy Grove, were the first and only lighthouse keepers of the Prospect Point lighthouse.  Stanley Park was a childhood playground for the Grove children and the family spent many a summer exploring BC’s coastal waters and islands on her father’s boat.
The World’s Best Mom (and World’s Worst Joke-Teller) worked as a telephone operator for North Van Tel and at Park & Tilford’s distillery.  Coming to Gibsons in 1965, Mary worked for many years at Kens Lucky Dollar and then at St. Mary’s Hospital until her retirement in 1996.  Her retirement years were spent enjoying her garden, her small but dedicated group of friends and her beloved family.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Darren Spithoff and the nurses at St. Mary’s, in particular RNs Dennis and Sharon.
No service will be held by request, but for those wishing to pay their respects, a small plant for Mary’s garden would be happily received.
