FRANCIS, Sidney Weymouth “Sid” – 75, of Yarmouth, passed away at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on May 12, 2013. Born September 13, 1937 in Grand Bank, NFLD he was a son of the late Charles and Annie Francis. Sidney retired from the position of airport manager in 1996 and was a devoted volunteer who would do anything for his community. He spent time as a volunteer firefighter, church steward, scout leader, PC party representative, minor hockey coach, volunteer with the Kay Nickerson Center, and many other worthy causes too numerous to mention. However, his biggest devotion was the Lion’s Club holding many offices over the years. Sidney received a special recognition for his term as Cabinet Secretary and District Governor of the Lion’s Club as well as his contribution to CNIB and the Lion’s Dog Guide Program in Oakville, Ontario. He loved hunting and spending time with AL and the boys. He especially loved his camp and had great times at Clearwater Lake. He loved watching every sport known to man, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Yankees. In his younger years he played many sports, soccer and hockey among his favorites. Sidney always had a big smile and sparkle in his bright blue eyes. His pace was always quick and everyone would say “where is Sid going in such a hurry? “ Those who knew him well knew that he had one speed – fast. Sidney was known for his amazing gift to make up a song about any topic that came to mind. Sidney is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Mildred “Millie” (also from Grand Bank); daughters, Donna (Fraser) Brannen; Joanne (Greg) Newell; grandchildren, Brent Justin, and Sydney Marie; sister, Mary Keats “Sis”; brother, George Francis. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his eldest brother Edward “Ned” Francis. He was so very proud of his grandchildren. Special thank you to the doctor’s, specialists, nurses, and the many health care team members who cared for him over the years. His life was lengthened by the skills and knowledge of many. Special recognition to Dr. Tarakji and Dr. Li who he had a great deal of trust and respect for. Many special thanks to Dr. Cindy Boudreau who he shared a special bond with. Thank you Cindy for your loving care and deep concern over the years. He loved you dearly. Thank you to the V.O.N for your care over the years.
