GERBRANDT - John H. Gerbrandt, age 90, passed away peacefully in his bed at 12:30 am, on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, with his wife, Mary, by his side, at Samaritan Place, Saskatoon, SK. Dad was born on February 14, 1923, at Niverville, MB. His mother passed away when he was 7 years old. Dad accomplished many things in his life - his marriage of 70 years, to Mary Dueck on February 28, 1943, at the Gouldtown Mennonite Church and this union was blessed with 12 children - joining the army for WWII, where he not only learned to survive, but he also worked hard to excel in music and carpentry - farming for 30 years on two farms in the Kelstern and Morse area - owning the Circle G Grocery Store in Herbert for about 5 years – as well as designing and building his House of Trinity on Main Street in Herbert, all with his own two hands. Dad was predeceased by his mother, Margaret (Hildebrand), age 32, on March 2, 1930; his father, John W. Gerbrandt, age 71, on June 18, 1958; his son, Gordon, age 32, on September 30, 1979; his siblings, Jake Gerbrandt, Tina Hamm, Nettie Unger, Anna Platt and Margaret Penner. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his great-great-grandchild; and by many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be dearly missed by all. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 2:00 pm from the Living Faith Fellowship Church, Herbert, SK. The pianist for the service was Caroline Holmes. “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Shall We Gather at the River” and “In the Sweet By and By” were sung by the congregation. Scripture was read from Deuteronomy 6:5-9 by Trish Whelen. Musical selections were brought by Sharon Brewer, Gail Carmack and Caroline Holmes. The obituary and eulogy was shared by Evelyn Kraway, Harold Gerbrandt and Florence Schluff. The ushers in the church were Jacquie Tokaryk, Rhonda Yourston, Dianne Hall and Catherine Vold. The Royal Canadian Legion served as Honor Guard. The Interment Service was held at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Richard Dyck, Jeremy Gerbrandt, Wayne Dyck, Jody Gerbrandt, Michael Gerbrandt, Kevin Gerbrandt, Anthony Gerbrandt, Jamie Gerbrandt, Dale Gerbrandt, Chris Gerbrandt and Jesse Fast. In memory of John Gerbrandt, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Swift Current Funeral Home.
