RICHARD DAVID DEAN MCGILLIVRAY

Born In: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Born: December 30th, 1955

Passed in: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: June 13th, 2013

Richard passed away suddenly on June 13, 2013 while cycling home from work in Savona, B.C. He was struck by a motor vehicle at Cherry Creek.

Richard is survived by his wife of 34 years Shirley, daughters Pamela (Jeffrey) and Alison (Jason) and granddaughter Isabella. He is also survived by his mother Helen, and siblings Daniel, Louise (Tim), Gordon (Cathy) and Shirley's parents Jim and Joyce Boydell, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and many friends.

He was predeceased by his father Elgin.

Born December 30, 1955 in Edmonton, AB, he graduated from grade 12 in 1973. He worked for CN Railway from 1973 to 1978. In January 1979, Richard moved to Fort St. John and started working for Westcoast Transmission (which eventually became Spectra Energy). In April 1992, he transferred to Savona where he was currently employed as a millwright.

Richard's passion for cycling started in Fort St. John in 1981 as one of the founding members of the Blizzard Bicycle Club when he became actively involved in road and mountain bike racing. Throughout his cycling career, he won many awards and trophies for his achievements, some of which included BC Summer Games, BC Masters Races, BC Seniors Games, races in Mexico, and club races. Richard was a member of Cycling BC, Interior Grasslands Cycling Club in Kamloops, and The Machine Team in Cozumel, Mexico. During his work week, cycling from Kamloops to his work in Savona and then riding home after work was how he accomplished his training miles; weekends involved longer training rides or racing.

Although cycling was his passion, Richard also enjoyed skate skiing in the winter, UFC, foreign travel, and Blazers hockey games.

Richard was a loving, caring and supportive father and husband. He took an active role in raising his daughters and guiding them through their young adult years. Cycling became part of the family's routine with everyone cheering on Richard at races and then going on family mountain bike rides and tours.

Family vacations were memorable and happy times, especially the KVR and Cozumel trips. Richard was ecstatic with the birth of his first grandchild in August 2012 and was looking forward to playing with her on the beaches of the Dominican Republic in November of this year.

The family would like to thank the first responders for their efforts.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Richard's life on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Schoening Funeral Service, 513 Seymour Street, Kamloops, B.C. A reception will follow. Please feel free to dress casually.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Kamloops United Way or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
