It is with sadness we announce the death of David Burke Beaton, 72, on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in Inverary Manor, Inverness.
Born on Jan. 12, 1941 in Little Judique, Cape Breton, Burke was a son of the late David and Effie (MacInnis) Beaton.
Surviving are his wife, Kate (MacDonald) and his children, David (Allanna) of Williamsville, N.Y.; Geraldine (Roy) MacEachern, Fort McMurray, Alta.; Darren, Amherst, N.Y.; Howard, Little Judique; daughter-in-law, Shannon, Inverness. He leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Tristan, Victoria, Elizabeth, Marley and Alexa. Also surviving are his brothers, Alexander (Donna), Burlington, Ont.; Hugh Malcolm (Florence), Little Judique; Harold (Norma), Edmonton, Alta.; his sister, Sylvia (Jimmy) Pellerin, Little Judique; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Aaron; brothers, Duncan and Robert and his sister, Rose MacIsaac.
A member of the Labourer’s International Union Local 1115, Burke thrived on hard work with spirited energy and strength. He had a keen eye for detail and took great pride in a job well done. He was employed at Gulf Oil Refinery for many years and worked on numerous construction projects throughout the Strait area. Burke was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours working the family farm on the Beaton Road. His hobbies included hunting, snowmobiling and landscaping. His passion for antique cars and the auto industry led to many entertaining Sunday drives with his family. He enjoyed Cape Breton square dances, community concerts, Scottish music, a good 63 card game and a cup of King Cole tea with friends. His greatest pride was his family.
Visitation will take place 2-9 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 at the Port Hood and Area Resting Place with funeral mass celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, in St. Peter’s Parish Church, Port Hood, officiated by Fr. Vincent VanZutphen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery Fund or the Inverary Manor Recreation Department, Inverness.
