It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Linda Poirier on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Calgary, Alta., at the age of 61 years.
A beloved mother, sister, aunt, grand-aunt and cousin, Lynn was born in New Waterford to the late Joseph and Mary (MacNeil) Poirier. Raised in New Victoria she was a graduate of St. FX University, Antigonish 1973, spending the last 35 years employed as an executive administrative assistant with Imperial Oil, Calgary.
She enjoyed the outdoors, long walks, mountain hikes, western boots and Calgary stampede, riding her motorcycle, shopping, butterflies, red wine and a good book, lobster and the East Coast.
A contradiction…a free spirit yet lived her life as a truly organized individual. She volunteered and supported many charitable organizations. She was amazing and loved so many people. Family was # 1 and her love of them helped to sustain her through many challenges in her life.
Survived by her loving son, Adam, Calgary, Alta., sisters, Louise Dawe (Harold) Osoyoos, B.C., Eileen Montgomery (Harold), Baddeck, N.S.; brothers, Fred, (Ruth) Coxheath, N.S., Dave (Anita), Hammonds Plains, N.S., Heck (Rodena), Cochrane, Alta.; sister-in-law, Rita (late Wally), Dartmouth, N.S. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, grand nephews, cousins and friends.
Predeceased by parents, Joseph and Mary (MacNeil) Poirier; brother, Walter Francis and niece, Mary Christine.
We will always think of her as an incredible warrior. She put up an incredible fight. They say who you are is not so much defined by how you live as how you die. Lynn’s courage is a shining example to us all. She is at peace at last.
Relatives and friends are invited to prayers in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Chapel (10827-24th St. SW., Calgary, Alta.) on Sunday, June 30 at 10 a.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel, New Waterford, N.S. Graveside service to follow at St. Alphonses Cemetery, Low Point, date to be announced at a later date.
