Passed in: Point Edward, Canada
Passed on: July 3rd, 2013
We sadly announce the passing of Bruce Daniel Watson, 90, on Wednesday July 3, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Bruce was born in Sydney on January 11, 1923 and lived at his home in Point Edward until just before his death. Particularly in later years Bruce often reflected on what a good life he had been fortunate to have. He was always able to look on the positive side and enjoy the small pleasures in life.
While his working life was spent at the Sydney Steel Plant, almost as much time was spent on the family farm with hogs, cattle and gardens. He found time to try his hand at training a race horse and enjoyed every opportunity to take in a race whether at the track or on satellite TV. Over the years you never knew what he would take on next as he learned everything from knitting nets and building lobster traps to making sausages and smoked meats. He took equal delight in encouraging his grandchildren to learn from new experiences whether riding a bike, crab fishing, carpentry skills, or just the savouring of a meal of vegetables fresh from his garden. Rare was the neighbour who could pass by without a gift of cucumbers or beans or tomatoes or something else.
Bruce is survived by Teresa, his best friend and wife of 65 years; sister Nina; sons Kirk (Barbara) and Barry (Karen); and grandchildren Shelby, Craig, Kaitie and Edward.
He was predeceased by his parents William Byron Watson and Frances Olga, sisters Lina (Lynds) and Frances Olga (infant), and brothers York and Edward.
Visitation will take place on Sunday July 7, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. With funeral service to take place on Monday July 8, 2013 at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
