ORTHNER- Walter Orthner passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the age of 85 years. Walter was born on April 11, 1928 to Rudolf and Maria (Galenzoski) Orthner, on the farm near Raymore Saskatchewan. He attended school at Raymore and later in Regina. He was employed at Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn, where he earned his degree in Psychiatric Nursing. It was here he met Marion Brownell, whom he married January 3rd, 1951. In 1960, they adopted a son Ronald, and in 1962, their second son, Timothy. In 1965, the family moved to Swift Current where Walter was employed with the Mental Health Clinic until his retirement in 1982. In 1972, Walter and Marion purchased some land north of Swift Current. In 1973, they built a house on the farm, and moved the family there. Walter and Marion remained on the farm until they moved to Riverview Village Estates in the summer of 2011. The farm was a place for Walter to get away from the pressures of his job. After retirement, you could find him tinkering around the farm, or lending a helping hand to neighbors with chores, harvest, and brandings. Walter was a devout Christian with a quiet faith. He attended Trailview Alliance Church regularly, and was known as a quiet and considerate man, always willing to help out when the opportunity presented itself. Walter was predeceased by his parents Rudolf and Maria, his in-laws Lawrence and Edna Brownell. Brothers Robert and Louis, sisters Annie Neb, Hulda Berkan, and Rose Nicolson. Wilhelmina Brownell and Edith Brownell. Walter is survived by his wife Marion, sons Ronald (Miriam Abel) and Timothy (Patricia). Grandchildren Justin Orthner and Jennifer Cragg, and Victoria, Olivia, and Michael Orthner. Brother Julius (Tegwen), and Sister Eleanor (Roland Flathman). Sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Evelyn, and Glenadean Vick, two great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Wednesday July 3rd, 2013, at Trailview Alliance Church with Pastor Blair Froese officiating. Special Music was provided by John Regier and pianist Marilyn Ginther, tributes were shared by grandchildren Victoria, Olivia, and Michael Orthner. Ushers were John Friesen, Peter Friesen, Paul Klippenstein and Frank Rempel. Pallbearers were nephews Gary Orthner, Jerry Orthner, Lorne Orthner, Wes Neb, Alvin Berkan, and Brian Jordan. Internment preceded the service at Memory Gardens. Arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.
