SMITH, JOAN VIVIAN. Peacefully in Ottawa on Friday, July 12, 2013. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1933, she was the eldest daughter of James and Audrey (Mattson) Green, sister to Jim (Eleanor), Nancy Hall (Basil), Shirley White and Georgina Shymko (Harry). She married the late Donald Smith and remained in Saint John until 2000, when she moved to Ottawa to be with her daughter Madelyn (Mark). Cherished grandmother to Tara Perley (Randy), and Troy Sears, great-grandmother to Jaedon and Joshua Perley, loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband in 2000, and beloved daughter Carolyn (Leslie) in 1995. Joan took great pride in her grandchildren, and her care for her family will be forever cherished. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Roxanne John for her many years of care and compassion and to the staff at Queensway Carleton Hospital. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or service. A private service and interment will be held in Saint John, NB at a future date.
