SHAW, PATRICK - Patrick G. Shaw of Simonds passed away at home on Sunday, August 11, 2013. He was born July 18, 1971. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Harley and Muriel Shaw and Glenn and Margaret McLean. Patrick is survived by his parents, Alton and Jeanne Shaw of Simonds; his brother, Evan Shaw of Southampton; uncles, aunts and cousins. Patrick was a happy child, intelligent,hard worker. He was a natural athlete-- a lifetime hockey player, he also played soccer for a few years. He was very musical-- learned the trumpet and had a good signing voice as a boy soprano and also after the voice change, but didn't sing often where/when others were listening. His public and private sides (as with most folks) were very different. His mind and spirit were often dark and very tortured by feeling a failure, especially compared to his friends; he was by nature and DNA a perfectionist who never , in his own mind measured up. Eventually this effected his work,lost him jobs and led him to many attempts to get help from Doctors, councillors, hospitals, including electric shock therapy; sadly nothing enabled him to turn things around in the long run. Patrick was a good loyal friend to many, not afraid of showing affection.He loved animals , and they him. He could be very funny, a born entertainer, and his family and good friends will greatly miss him.
By request there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to join the family for a memorial service on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Simonds Cemetery. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, The Dr. Walter Chestnut Library or Trinity United Church in Hartland. www.brittonfh.ca
