We regret to announce the passing of Nat Beaton, of Point Aconi on Thursday Sept. 12, 2013.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Roderick and Annie (Forrest) Beaton.
He served overseas during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Engineers as a sapper, seeing action in continental Europe, United Kingdom and Central Mediterranean area. Upon his return home, he worked in the coal mines and fished, until he was 83 years old. Nat was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or.
He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia (Joe MacFarlane), Mill Creek, Esther (Bill Giles), Point Aconi, Edith (Corson Walters), Westmount, Tena Beaton, Sydney; son, Bernie, Point Aconi. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as sister, Mary, New Brunswick and brothers, Mick (Peggy), Ontario and Harold, North Sydney.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (MacLean); siblings, Bernie, Frank, Lucy (Apblett), Eileen (Cormier), Julie (Robinson), Tommie; half-brothers, Phillip, Roddie and Jimmy Pat and grandson, Greg MacFarlane.
The Beaton family will receive visitors on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating.
Family flowers only please. Donations in Nat’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph Church “Raise the Roof Fund” or a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
