It is with sadness the family announces the passing of John Hiltz at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton on Tuesday, September 10th, 2013. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Hiltz who passed away in January of this year. John is survived by four sons, Laurie (Paula) of Oromocto, Michael (Dean) of Fredericton, and Gary and Thomas (Lois), both of Waterville; three grandchildren, Thomas Hiltz Jr, Mike McCoy (Jenny) and Shane HIltz and two great grandchildren, Logan Hiltz and Meagan McCoy. John was born on February 28th, 1923 on a rural farm in North Alton, Nova Scotia, where he worked hard till joining the North Shore New Brunswick Regt, fighting in WWII. He fought in France, Germany and Belgium and after the war joined the Black Watch Regt and finally the Royal Canadian Regt. Upon retiring from the military at Base Gagetown, he joined the BCE organization in the steam fitters shop, serving his country for over 37 years. He finally retired to his home on the Waterville Road where he loved to garden. An avid fisherman and hunter who has now gone home to be with his wife once again – no more pain or sorrow. The family wish to thank the staff of the Veterans Health Unit for the loving care they provided him till his passing. There was no visitation by request. Interment of both John and Betty took place on Tuesday, September 17th, 2013, at 11:00 am in the Geary French Lake Waterville Memorial Cemetery on Smith / Waterville Road in Waterville / Geary. A reception followed at the home of Laurie and Paula Hiltz.
