EVANS, LORRAINE MARGARET - The death of Lorraine Margaret Evans of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on September 18, 2013. Lorraine was born at Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton on October 6th, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret (Phillpot) McCully. Lorraine graduated from Mount Allison University in 1951 with a B. F. A. Degree. She moved to Fredericton the fall of 1951 and established the art programme in the city schools. She married George Evans of Fredericton in 1952 and has called Fredericton home all her married life. Lorraine has made many close friends, and has always been interested in the arts and culture of the city. In the later years, she has been working with and contributing to the Fibre Arts Guild of Fredericton and leaves a legacy of fine and beautiful embroidery work. Lorraine is survived by her husband of 61 years, George H. Evans of Fredericton; son George A. Evans (Roberta) of Halifax; daughter, Mary E. Evans of Fredericton; seven grandchildren, David Evans of Halifax, Rebekah (Evans) Barker of North Carolina, Geordie Evans (Amberle) of Edmonton, Katherine Evans of Halifax, Hanna Evans of Halifax, Caleb Evans of Halifax and Meaghan Holyoke of Fredericton; five great-grandchildren in North Carolina; two sisters, June Dickson of Calgary and Myrla Drysdale of Halifax as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no visitation, but a memorial service and reception will be held at Forest Hill United Church, Kimble Court, on September 28th, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The family would appreciate any donations to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit.
