It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father. He is now reunited with his cherished wife, Florence.
Loving father of Lawrence (Sandra) Stevens, Linda (Greg) Dubois, Verna Stevens (Hani Diab) and beloved friend Raymond MacNeil. Ga will be missed by his precious grandsons, Brent and David Dubois. He was the adored brother of Millie Smith, B.C. and Jean McKenna, Ontario.
Besides his wife Florence, Lorne was predeceased by his parents, Vernon Stevens and Florence (Henderson)Stevens and sisters, Florence Stephens, Hazel MacNeil and Greta Stewart.
He will be missed by many well loved nieces and nephews and a circle of wonderful friends.
Lorne was a devoted husband and father for 61 years. He never lost his prodigious memory and was inspiringly upbeat in spite of the loss of Florence. Lorne loved to entertain his friends with his encyclopedia of jokes. He had a profound interest in others, showed neighbourly kindness, and a gentle charm that won hearts wherever he went. He took great pleasure in being an active presence in Brent and David's lives, and was very proud of them.
Lorne was born in Truro and at the age of 14 he decided he wanted to be a mechanic. He could fix or make anything. He was the "go to guy' in Blackett's Lake and always had a steady stream of friends dropping by for advice. Everyone loved to be around him. After retirement Lorne devoted his spare time to carpentry in his garage workshop. He spent many happy hours there with his projects, his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Our sincere thanks go out to the staff in the Intensive Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their compassion and caring.
Friends may pay respects at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 7-9 p.m. On Thursday, Sept. 26 there will be visitation from 1-2 p.m. with a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating Reception to follow.
