Jimmy MacNeil

Passed in: Alder Point
Passed on: September 22nd, 2013

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle and great friend Jimmy McNeil. He passed away on Sunday evening Sept. 22, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was the son of Florence and the late Earl McNeil.
Jimmy was very fortunate to have many people in his life who loved and cared for him. He was a huge link in the McNeil family and also belonged to the Blue Mist Family. Paul, Janice and all his friends at the mist meant the world to him. He could be found on his corner stool with his favourite mug every night of the week.
He truly loved being the center of everyone’s attention. His smile and innocence was endearing. Jimmy’s hobbies included countless hours of viewing family photos, boating ventures on the Fun Boat, playing on his computer and collecting pins, watches, hats and Harley Davidson memorabilia. In his early years Jimmy could be seen hitch hiking almost anywhere. He will surely be missed by many.
Jimmy is survived by his mother, Florence; brothers, Joey McNeil (Cecilia), Gary McNeil (Jane); sisters, Nancy LeBlanc, Anita Finney (Neil), Angie Penny (Chris), Donna Boutilier (Joey), Tracey McNeil (Jack); neices and nephews, Teresa, Amy (Kim), Michelle (Andrew), April (Jeff), Kyle (Amanda), Kelly (Mitchell), DJ (Madonna), Allen, Jenny, Brody, Chantel and Kassidy; greatniece and nephews, Abbi, Nate, Jace and Jesse. Jimmy had a special place in his heart for his extended family Chris and Jeff Rendall and their children Cody, Jacob, Nathan and Bryce. Jimmy is also survived by his many aunts and uncles, Rev. Fr. Ray O’Toole, Bobby O’Toole (Marje), Dean Power, Shirley MacQuarrie (Clyde), Lenore MacIntyre (Barry), Nathan McNeil (Lorraine), David McNeil (Elizabeth) and many cousins.
Jimmy was predeceased by his father, Earl, brother, Shaun, sister, Mary (in infancy), brother-in-law, James LeBlanc, grandparents, Angus and Gladys McNeil and Raymond and Ella O’Toole.
The McNeil Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral mass will take place Thursday, Sept. 26 at St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating.
Donations can be made in Jimmy’s memory to Palliative Care or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Expression of sympathy may be directed to the McNeil family by visiting www.francisfuneralhome.ca.
Shaun would be proud of you Jimmy for “Paying it Forward” through the miracle of organ and tissue donation. Jimmy’s legacy will live on.
“Jimmy was a man of few words but he touched the hearts of so many people. We miss you already Jim Bob.”
