HANNON- John Gordon Hannon of Swift Current, SK and formerly McCord SK passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the age of 87 years. Gordon was born July 13, 1926 on the farm near McCord to John and Mae Hannon. He was the youngest of three children and brother to Emily and Anne. Being the only son Gordon took on a lot of responsibility at a young age and this is the foundation that his hardworking character was built upon. Growing up on the farm Gordon had a love of animals, especially his dogs and horses, and they were his companions when working. Gordon married Vera Munford on November 25, 1950. At this time they also purchased the family farm, which they called home until 1991 when they moved to Swift Current. Gordon and Vera were blessed with three sons, Douglas, Clayton and Wendell. Gordon was very dedicated to his children and wanted to provide them with opportunities he didn’t have. He spent countless hours plowing snow to clear the roads for the boys to be able to make their hockey games and other sports, and he instilled a good work ethic in his children. In 1985 Gordon suffered a heart attack, which forced him into retirement, and this led to many changes in Gordon and Vera’s life. They invested in a holiday trailer and spent a few winters in Yuma and summers in the Okanagan. Many close friends were made on these trips. Gordon enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s hockey games, skating carnivals and any else that they were involved in. He was very proud of all their accomplishments. Gordon was a kind, caring and honest man; always willing to help anyone who needed a hand. His sense of humour was infectious. Any get together would result in lots of laughter, jokes and stories. Gordon loved to tell jokes and sometimes had a problem getting to the punch line because he was laughing too hard. Gordon will be remembered for his unconditional love, endless patience and for being a wonderful husband, parent, grandparent and great grandparent. Gordon is survived by his loving wife Vera Hannon; son Douglas Hannon; son Clayton (Aline) Hannon, grandsons Lane Hannon, Dustin Hannon, Cole Hannon; son Wendell (Denise) Hannon, granddaughter Amberlea (Derek) Chabot, great grandchildren Taeya, Jade, grandson Shane (Morgan) Hannon, great grandchildren Brynlee, Kenzie, granddaughter Jenna (Matthew) Axten, great grandson Kai. Predeceased by his parents John and Mae Hannon; sisters Emily (Lorne) Biesley, Anne Grigg. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the McCord United Church, McCord, SK, with Reverend Mathias Ross officiant. Reader was Lane Hannon. Fond memories were shared by Amberlea Chabot and Shane Hannon. Urn bearer was Clayton Hannon.
