Passed away at Pine Acres Home in Westbank, BC. George was born on the family farm near Flintofft, Saskatchewan to Peter and Helen Yorga. He will be sadly missed by his son Garry (Iona), daughter Mona (Paul) Strader, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and his sister Eleanora ‘Nonie’ Lucas. George was predeceased by his wife Dorothy on February 19, 2013 after 69 years together; his parents and 2 siblings. George joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England during the 2nd World War leaving behind his new bride, Dorothy. Upon return he worked various jobs including mechanics and farming before taking over the family farm. Asthma forced him to leave farming. He started his career with Canada Post in Assiniboia, SK later transferring to BC where he retired in Oliver, BC in 1982. In retirement they returned to Moose Jaw, SK where he volunteered at the Western Development Museum and at Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village Museum restoring a Case Steam tractor and various Case farm tractors and what he really loved, assisting with the farming. As they say “You can take the boy off of the farm, but you cannot take the farm out of the boy”. They returned to BC in 2006 to be closer to immediate family. George had a love of music and dancing, especially Square Dancing, which they enjoyed for many years. A Memorial Service was held at Pine Acres Care Home on October 9, 2013 officiated by Father W.
