Gordon Cloney Brookins

23, Oxford, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Ruthann M. (Cloney) of Oxford and the late Peter D. Brookins.
Gordon graduated from Oxford Regional High School and went on to receive a diploma in Heavy Construction from Dexter Institute. Gordon took pride in working as a heavy machine operator in Halifax for three years. He also drove across Canada in the summer of 2013 with his cousin Ryan Brookins to work in the town of High Level, AB. More recently Gordon began pursuing a two-year certificate program in surveying, an avenue that was always of interest to him, at the NSCC Centre of Geographic Sciences in Lawrencetown, N.S. He had many interests, including hockey (especially pond hockey), four wheeling, playing ping pong, gaming, cruising, and spending his summers at the family cottage in West Pugwash with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Ruthann Brookins, Oxford; sisters, Rachel Brookins, Cambridge, UK, and Karen Brookins, Halifax; grandparents, Bessie Brookins, Springhill, and George and Marie Brookins, Stratford, P.E.I. Gordon is also survived by his close family of uncles, aunts and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Peter Brookins; grandparents, Donald and Geneva (Thompson) Cloney; and uncles, Gene Cloney and Terry Dobson.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 24, from 2-4 p.m. for family members and 7-9 p.m. for public. It will be held at MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930). The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 25, at the Trinity United Church, Oxford, with Rev. Gary MacDougall officiating.
