ECKERT - James Walter Eckert passed away October 27, 2013 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. A graveside service was held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Gull Lake Cemetery, with Reverend Bev Diduck of Knox United Church officiating. The pallbearers were: Dennis Suehwold, Justin Suehwold, Jonathan Suehwold, Carl Carlson and Arlen Farrow & Roderick Farrow. Jim was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, September 30, 1933. He was third youngest of eight children. The family moved to Winnipeg, MB., where he finished his schooling.Jim joined the army in December, 1951. He took his basic training at Camp Borden, Ontario. He served with the United Nations in Korea. He returned to Canada and was posted to Fort Churchill, Manitoba. From Fort Churchill he went to the Middle East, Gaza Strip and also under the United Nations, detached duty in Beirut, Lebanon and Alexandria and Cairo Egypt. He returned to Canada in 1958 and was posted at Central Command Headquarters Field Security Section, Fort Osbourne Barrack, Winnipeg, MB. In 1960 he took a release from the army and went back to civilian life. Jim and Elaine Larson met and first resided in Calgary, AB where he was employed for the C.A. DeFehr Furniture as warehouse man. He then applied for a job as a grain buyer and the couple moved to Hafford, SK. Jim's next move was to Saskatoon, SK. where he was again employed by the C.A. DeFehr Furniture. The couple then operated a Service Station in Belle Plaine for several years. The couple moved to Gull Lake in 1997 to work and enjoy a quiet life style, and have been residence since. For the last two years he was ill and in a wheel chair, but still enjoyed life. Jim was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He leaves to mourn his wife Elaine and three sisters, in Manitoba. In his younger years he enjoyed playing Hockey and baseball. He will be sadly missed by friends and family. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
