THORESON- Allen Franklin. Age 83 of Cabri, Saskatchewan passed away on October 28, 2013 at the Prairie Health Care Centre, Cabri, Saskatchewan. The funeral service was held at 2:00 pm on November 1, 2013 from the Cabri Community Legion Hall with David Hagel officiating. The pianist for the service was Mrs. Lexie Culham. A reading was presented by granddaughter, Kaylee Thoreson. Corey Hadden, grandson, provided the eulogy. Special music was sung by Paulette Hadden & David Hagel, "Danny Boy" and "The Cowboy Rides
Away". The Royal Canadian Legion formed the honour guard. Ushers were treasured friends: Garnet Anderson, Glen Koehler, Mark Bang, and Garry Pederson. The Internment was held at Cabri Cemetery next to Allen's youngest son, Brian, and wife, Iona. Allen leaves to treasure his memory his children Daryl (Janice) of Cabri, SK; Darcy (Cheryl) of Gull Lake, SK. and their children Kaylee, Megan, and Shelby; Glenda of Cabri, SK and her children Corey, Shanna (Clinton) Petersen, Jordan, and Reagan and grandchildren Claire and Chloe Petersen; Greg (Nancy) of Cabri, SK and their children Charity (Scott) Couto, Brenan (Nikki), Brodie, and Bryce and grandchildren Maximilian and Iona Couto. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, Allen is remembered by brothers Lloyd (Edna) of Gull Lake, SK and Jim (Pat) of Winfield, AB, sister Elvina (John) Sloan of Hazlet, SK, brother-in-law Ervin (Louise) Shannon of Hazlet, SK, sisters-in-law Eileen Yake of Swift Current, SK and Norma of Maple Ridge, BC. Allen was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Bernice Iona, in 2004, father Albert in 1990, mother Grace in 1999, son Brian in 1969, son-in-law George Mitchell in 1986, brothers Ron in 2000 and Edwin in 2005, brothers-in-law Stan Yake in 1991 and Donald Shannon in 2011, sisters-in-law Madeleine in 2008 and Francis Shannon in 2011. Allen was born on May 28th, 1930 at the Thoreson family farm on the Snakehole Lake, south of Cabri, SK. On September 30th, 1950, Allen married Bernice Iona Shannon at the First United Church in Swift Current, SK. They had five children: Daryl, Darcy, Glenda, Greg, and Brian. Allen was a farmer for most all of his life. In addition, he enjoyed coaching and playing baseball, specifically the Roseray Eagles. His hobbies included John Deere tractor collecting, horses, trail rides, rodeos, antique collecting, antique furniture refinishing, old time dancing, taxidermy, playing pool and cribbage, reading western stories and watching western programs. Allen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother. His family would like to extend their appreciation for the loving care and attention provided to him by the staff of the Prairie Health Care Centre.
