DONISON-Lydia Donison was born February 8, 1917 at home in the Flintoft area. She went to school at Tunbridge Wells, Melaval and Lafleche Schools. The family rented out their land and moved to Windsor, Ontario in 1933 to find work. They returned home after 1 ½ years. Lydia attended Normal Teacher’s College in Regina. Her first teaching position was at Bannock School near Mankota for 1 ½ years. She then got a teaching position near her home and taught there for 5 years. During that time she met Dan Donison who came to Wood Mountain area to farm. They were married in 1942. They had three daughters, Carol, Lynn and Bette. She returned to teaching at Plessis and Wood Mountain Schools. She taught for 33 years and enjoyed it very much. Lydia worked hard teaching, raising a family and still found time to bake bread most Saturdays and grow a big garden. She was also active in the community. In 1979 Dan passed away and Lydia moved to Swift Current. She joined round dancing and square dancing where she met many new friends. She loved playing cards with her friends and neighbors. She also took up knitting and crocheting. She knit sweaters for all her grandchildren and many other things. Lydia enjoyed several years with companion, Walter Gummeson who she enjoyed going to dances with and playing cards. Lydia is survived by her sister Ruth, three daughters, Carol (John) Gives of Burnaby, Lynn Thomas and Bette (Dennis) Bradley of Swift Current. She had a special place in her heart for her nine grandchildren, Nicole and Alison Gives; Melanie, Tricia, Holly and Amy Thomas and Tyler, Becky and Tanner Bradley. Lydia passed away November 11, 2013 in Swift Current, SK. A Memorial Service for Lydia was held on November 22, 2013 at the Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK, with Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiating.
