Allister Lloyd (Lloyd) Ross Fraser, age 84, of Eureka, Pictou County, passed away in Antigonish on Nov. 26, 2013.
Born in St Pauls, Pictou County, he was the son of the late Harris and Ellen (MacIntosh) Fraser.
Lloyd was proud to be known as a “Culloden Fraser”, being a descendant of James Fraser from Culloden Inverness-shire, one of the early settlers on the East River.
Lloyd attended the Normal College in Truro then taught school for a short period. The majority of his working years were spent at Maritime Steel & Foundry in New Glasgow, then the Michelin Tire plant in Granton.
He was previously a member and treasurer of Zion Presbyterian Church, Eureka, currently a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell.
Lloyd was very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. He had a great aptitude for anything mechanical or related to mathematics; and greatly enjoyed trips to the woods. You may not have always understood what Lloyd would say, but later come to realize it to be true.
Lloyd is survived by his sister Kathryn (Kay) Jardine, New Glasgow; son Greg and wife Helen; grandchildren, Melissa and Matthew, Ohio, Antigonish Co.
He was predeceased by wife Beulah (MacDonald), brother Arthur Weldon (Weldie), parents Harris and Ellen.
There will be no visitation by Lloyd’s request. A graveside service, to which all family and friends are welcome, will be held at the Springville Cemetery on Nov. 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. This service will be under the direction of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Reception to follow at First Presbyterian Church Hall, Hopewell.
If so desired, donations can be made to any charity of choice, of particular note the Antigonish branch of the V.O.N. and the Antigonish Palliative Care Society.
Lloyd wished to express his gratitude for the care he received through the health care system. Specifically in the latter stages of his care; Dr. Gregor MacLean, New Glasgow; Dr. Lori Wood and staff QEII, Dr. Ricardo Rendon, Halifax; Dr. Maureen Allen and palliative care staff St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish; VON nurses, Antigonish Red Cross and lastly Bernadette MacDonald for the incredible level of care and comfort provided that enabled him to stay in his own place over the past month. He also wanted to acknowledge the thoughts and expressions of caring from family, friends and church members.
