PHILLIPS, Berngula Mae "Sis". Age 76, of Windsor, formerly of St. Croix passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on October 17, 1937 in Windsor, to the late Allan and Edna (MacDonald) Singer, and was raised "down on the island." She was a long serving member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 009. Her passions included skating, curling, oil painting and her family. She is survived by her son, David Spence, Wolfville; daughters, Barbara (Reid) MacLean, Porters Lake and Crystal Spence, St. Croix; sister, Barbara Duncan, Kingston; half-brother, Byron Singer, Wilmot; grandchildren Mischaela, Virginia, Lee, Jason, Clarissa and Kelsie; and one great grandchild Spence "Casey." Sis was predeceased by her second husband, Ryle Phillips; former husband, David Spence and brother, Bruce Singer.
Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Funeral service took place 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, in St. John's Presbyterian Church, 211 King St., Windsor, Rev. Jean MacAulay and Rev. Alex Mosher officiated. A reception followed in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Private family interment was held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sis may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Nova Scotia Division, 101-137 Chain Lake Dr., Halifax, NS B3L 2C2.
