Violet (née Hunter) Dyke of Eastport, Bonavista Bay passed away 29 November 2013 at Lakeside Homes, Gander at age 102 years and 4 months. Born July 14, 1911, she was the last surviving offspring of James and Jane (née Vivian) Hunter of Burnside. She was predeceased by her husband, Silas Farwell Dyke (2003), her son Amor Prince Dyke (Pearl), and her daughter Edna (Detlive). She is survived by daughters Emma (Edgar) Cross of Eastport, Verna (Mac) Oldford of Manitoulin Island ON, and son Arthur (Lorna), Pakenham ON. Violet was the beloved nannie of 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great grandchildren. After growing up in Burnside, Violet spent her married life in Clay Cove, Eastport where she and Silas ran a general store and a small subsistence farm. Before her senior years, she was an active member of the Loyal Orange Benevolent Association and the Anglican Church Women’s Association. Most who knew Violet will remember her for her kindness and generosity and her knitting skills. Interment at Holy Cross Anglican Cemetery, Eastport, Monday December 2. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Holy Cross Anglican Cemetery Fund.
