It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Dan MacKinnon. Peter was surrounded by his family when he passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Capstick, he was the son of the late Donald A. and Jessie Florence (Burton) MacKinnon.
Peter had many loves in life, family being the first. He had a special relationship with all of his immediate family and those of his extended family; especially his grand-nephew, Jason Keigan 'Buddy'. Peter was very much a people person spending his mornings chatting with many patrons at Tim Hortons, walking around Indian Beach chatting with anyone. He loved to go out in the boat fishing and spent much of his life working either as a woodsman or fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Hawley; daughters, Idella Matheson (Paul), Cora Blake (Dave), Wanda Pye (Gilbert), Kim MacLean, Wendy MacLean (Jackie); son, Jason MacLean (Nora), and special grandson Scott Pye.
Peter was the eldest brother to Elizabeth MacKinnon (Sandy), Sadie MacKinnon (Hector), Johnny (Gordena), Lewis (Pinny), Katie Groves (Leonard), Donald (Cindy), Jean Forest (Benny), Alex (Sarah), Nora (Jason), Denise MacAskill (John), and Anthony (Karen).
He was predeceased by his son, Clarence Pye, also by his siblings, Millie Wayne, Joan, Nellie, Myles, and Bernie MacKinnon.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. from the chapel with the Dianne Kempt; DLM officiating. Interment at a later date.
