UPTON, MARIE REINE (IRENE) - UPTON, Marie Reine (Irene), 74 of Bedford, NS passed away peacefully on December, 16th, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer. Born on October 2, 1939 in Atholville, NB, she was the youngest daughter of the late William Gallant and the late Marie Louise Lavoie. Irene was a strong and compassionate woman who for 20 years owned and operated the flower shop, Dalhousie Nurseries in Dalhousie, NB before moving to Bedford, NS 13 years ago. In Dalhousie, Irene was actively involved in the Lioness Club and was a past president of the annual Bon Ami Festival. In Bedford, Irene volunteered with the CWL as well as the Bedford Leisure Club and was the first to step up and offer help to any friend in need. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Allan and will be greatly missed by her family including her two daughters, Louise Upton-Ruddock (Ellis) of Bedford, NS and Shelley Upton-Landry (Claude) of Cole Harbour, NS along with grandchildren, Nadia and Josh Landry of Cole Harbour, NS, her sister Jeannette Poirier of Moncton and her brothers Joe Gallant of Saint John and Aime Gallant of Montreal as well as several nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.
Visitation will take place on Friday December 20th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr, Lower Sackville NS with Funeral Services on Saturday December 21st, at 11am from Saint Ignatius Catholic Church in Bedford, NS.
