Laurier MacKenzie

Laurier ‘Laurie’ Vincent MacKenzie, 60 of Lyons Brook and formerly of Trenton, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2013 at the Halifax Infirmary, surrounded by family members.
Laurie was born in Trenton on March 30, 1953, and was a son of Earl and the late Eunice (MacInnis) MacKenzie.
Laurie grew up in Trenton but moved to Pictou after marrying Josephine.
Besides his father he is survived by his wife, Josephine (Rankin); son, Lee, Trenton; step-daughter, Joelene (Doug) Lawson, Angus, Ontario; daughter, Lauren (Jenna), Truro; son, Rankin (Walter) Trenton; brothers, Kenny (Theresa), Don (Sheila), Gary (Irene), Robert (Tanya), all of Trenton; Jack (Karen), Pictou Landing; sisters, Kathy (Art) Hafey, Trenton; Karen (Don) Creighton, Ottawa, Ontario; special grandchildren, Evan and Brenna Lawson as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Laurie was predeceased by his brother Vernon.
Laurie loved his wife and family above all else and cherished his time with them, he will be remembered for his passion for life and tremendous courage and determination to overcome his many battles with his health. Laurie’s personal achievements during his life were admirable, as a young man he acquired his pilot’s license, sang and learned to play guitar and taught himself to read music. He loved to entertain and spread joy through his music. Laurie worked several jobs in his youth, but was a long time employee at Nova Scotia Power, where he became shift engineer and then an industrial mechanic, all of this while battling overwhelming health issues. Laurie will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from Stella Maris Church, Pictou with Father Gerald Campbell officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Diabetes Association.
