It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Stewart, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in Reserve Mines to Henry and Mary Jane (Kanary) Marsh, Stewart graduated from St. FX in 1949, and then pursued his medical degree from the University of Ottawa graduating in 1959. He then furthered his studies in ENT in Detroit, Mich., and returned to Sydney to open up his practice in 1965. After his retirement in 1996, he began working with the Cape Breton Hearing Clinic.
Stewart is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Florence (MacKinnon) Marsh; sons, Stewart Jr., Sydney, Todd (Gayle), Glace Bay; and daughter, Donna Marsh, Sydney; two grandchildren, Zackery and Alannah Pezzareallo (Shane) and great-grandaughter, Jayden. Also surviving are his sisters, Zita Armishaw, Dophie Marsh, Maurina Marsh, Marie Marsh and brothers, Gannon (Brother Ninian) Marsh, Fr. Anthony Marsh, Joseph Marsh and many nieces and nephews. Stewart is also survived by his sister-in-law, Theresa and husband Ted Slaney.
Stewart was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, James, Alphonse, Dennis, Sylvester, Henry and Coady and sisters, Mary Ann, Dolores and Gilbert.
Visitation will take place on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, N.S. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, Sydney River, with Fr. Norman MacPhee and Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
