Myrtle Lois (Dwyer) Langille

Myrtle Lois (Dwyer) Langille, age 104, formerly of River John, passed away peacefully at Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou on Thursday, December 26, 2013.
Born in River John on December 15, 1909, she was a daughter of the late George and Florence (Robison) Dwyer.
In her early married life, she was a homemaker and spent many hours sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and rug-hooking. Having raised her family of 12, Myrtle went to work for National Seafoods, which she enjoyed immensely. Myrtle's interests included music, card parties and bingo, watching sports on television and travelling across Canada visiting family members. She was also an avid crossword puzzle solver and scrabble player. Myrtle lived in Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, from 2004 until the time of her death. There, she was an eager participant in the daily activities and was a member of the Shiretown Minstrels and was also inducted into the Century Club. Myrtle was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, River John and was an organist there for many years as well as the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Middleton. She was an ardent supporter and lifelong member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Throughout Myrtle's life, she was always interested in global and national affairs as well as local events and achievements.
She is survived by daughters: Shirlee Anne Smith, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Muriel “Fluff” Baillie, Pictou; Irene (Lorne) Harley, Comox, British Columbia; Gaye (Hube) Hillier, St. John's, Newfoundland; Darrell (Gerald) Sutherland, Caribou River; Roline (Gordon) Brown, Woodstock, Ontario and sons, Melbourne, Carlos, Mexico; Terry (Susan) Sauble Beach, Ontario; as well as her son-in-law, Murray Gratto, River John; sister, Muriel Reid, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; brothers, Arthur, Truro and Bill, River John; 31 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Myrtle was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Wilson; daughters, Gwenolyn, Leota; sons, Stanley, Weldon; daughters-in-law: Ruby, Cathy and Betty; sons-in-law, Richard Smith, Alex MacDonald, Bill Baillie and Reginald Dame; grandsons, Kevin Langille, Kenneth Gratto; sisters: Florence, Violet and Mae; brothers: Edwin, Cyril, Jim, Gordon, Leslie, Bennett and Austin.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, where visitation took place Saturday, December 28, 2013. Funeral service was held Sunday, December 29, from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, River John.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, River John or the Mountain Road Cemetery, River John.
