Meike Keunecke (née Kok)

Born In: Munich, Germany
Born: April 21st, 1944

Passed in: Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada
Passed on: January 1st, 2014

After a battle with cancer, discovered in February 2013, Meike passed away peacefully in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
She leaves behind her husband, Edzard; children, Hendrikje and Hagen; and grandchildren, Saskia, Eponine, Hector, Danaé and Enkidou.
Born in Munich, Germany, Meike came to P.E.I. in 1971. Her creativity led her to take up pottery; she created ceramics that are still to be found in Maritime homes. She dedicated her life and love to the young. A French-Immersion teacher, she inspired her children and young Islanders who remember planting trees on Earth Day and field trips to discover birds and animals. Her passion for birds led her to help protect a Bobolink nesting area. Throughout her life, Meike believed strongly in the connections between the planet and its people.
Her family would like to thank Drs. Larry Pan, Mireille Lecours and Jill Cunniffe for their outstanding care and compassion. They are also exceptionally grateful to the team at the Prince Edward Home who made Meike’s journey immeasurably better.
At her request, there will be no service. Her memory may live on through donations made in her name to the Island Nature Trust.

Le printemps est arrivé.
Du rossignol
Les larmes gelées
Maintenant vont-elles fondre?
