O’LEARY, SHIRLEY M. - It is with great sadness the family and friends announce the passing of Shirley May O’Leary (Lewis), beloved wife of Albert Kitchen O’Leary. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on January 7, 2014. Shirley was born in Devon on October 22, 1928. She was one of 13 children born to Joe and Margaret (Stewart) Lewis. Shirley is survived by Albert, her husband of 68 years; sons Wayne, John (Bonnie) and Danny (Heather); 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; her sister Ruth McLements of Glassville and many nieces and nephews. Shirley started to work in the retail business at the age of 15 and retired with 28 years service at Tingley’s Save Easy. She volunteered with St. John Ambulance and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for over 20 years. Shirley was Church of England by faith. She loved to cook for her family and friends making 18 to 20 loaves of bread at age 85 with Albert. Her other hobbies included bingo, cards and knitting. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Ronny. Our memories of her will last forever.
The family will receive condolences at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, 775 Forest Hill Road, Fredericton on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 11:00 AM until service time at the church at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Canon Elaine Hamilton will officiate assisted by The Rev. Canon Bruce McKenna. Interment in the Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Scott, Daren, Chris, Jody, Trevor and her nephew Doug. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Chalmers Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit). Bishop’s Funeral Home (458-1885) have been entrusted with the arrangements.
