HOSSACK, STEVEN EUGENE - The family of Steven Eugene Hossack regretfully announce his passing after a brief but faith-filled and courageous battle with cancer. Steven died on Sunday, January 5th, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Steven was born February 28, 1957 in Wakefield, Quebec, a community near Ottawa, ON where his father was stationed at RCAF Headquarters. Steven was the son of the late George K. Hossack of Fredericton and Claudette Davidson Purdy currently of Calgary, AB. Steven loved cars and he and his dad would watch the NASCAR races on TV every Sunday afternoon. Steven worked at Jardine Auctioneers on the Hanwell Road for several years driving cars for auction to Fredericton. He was very proud to have achieved his GED Certificate. Besides his mother, Steven is survived by his former wife Gloria Harris, his half- brother Michael Purdy of Calgary, aunts Patricia Cormier of Moncton and Ann Doucet of Rothesay and his uncle Fred Grant of Fredericton. He is survived by several cousins and by his close friend and Cousin Teresa Doucet of Fredericton. Steven was a very supportive friend to others and had a close network of friends who were especially supportive during his brief illness. Steven was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davidson of Fredericton; his paternal grandparents John and Ella Hossack; Mrs. Hossack raised Steven and his elder brother Brian from the ages of four and eight years old. He was also predeceased by his brother Brian in 1979; his father George in 2002; his Uncle John Hossack in 2007; his Aunt Jean Grant in 2011 and uncles Evariste Cormier in 1997 and Herb Doucet in 2013.
Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton is in charge of arrangements. At Steven’s request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service to celebrate Steven’s life will be held on Friday, January 10th at 2pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Charlotte St. with reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, to the Fredericton Community Food Basket or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
