Cecilia Ferguson of 27 Xavier Dr., Sydney, N.S. died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
Cecilia was a daughter of the late Francis Xavier Ferguson, and the late Mary Evelyn (MacDonald) Ferguson.
Cecilia was born and lived all of her life in Sydney. After attending Holy Angels Convent School, Sydney and The Family Life Program at St. Joseph’s School Mabou, Cecilia began her career as a telephone operator with MT&T, Sydney, where she worked for 41 years.
Cecilia loved to sing. One of the highlights of Cecilia’s life, besides her family and friends, was her membership in the various singing groups, such as The Breton Belles, Sacred Heart Church Choir and the Canada Games Choir. Cecilia attended Liturgy on a daily basis, until a few years ago when illness became a major part of her daily life. She also loved dogs and visited her friends Mary and Basil Fraser almost daily to see her pet, Cricket!
She was dearly loved by her sisters, Sheila (John) MacKillop, Gatineau, Que.; Imelda Luciani, Calgary, Alta., Franklyn Ferguson, Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, presently living in Sydney; her many nieces and nephews, godchildren, cousins on the Ferguson and the MacDonald side and her aunt Joyce (Allan J.) McDonald, Sydney.
Besides her parents, Cecilia was predeceased by two infant sisters, Theresa Cecilia and Mary Evelyn and brother-in-law, Gilbert P. Luciani.
Visitation for the late Cecilia Ferguson will be from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Bible Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. where friends and families can share memories of Cecilia. Celebration of the Eucharist will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception at New Dawn Place/the former Holy Angels High School, Nepean Street, Sydney.
