The death of Jean Margaret Smith, wife of the late Ralph L. Smith of South Athol, NS, occurred peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Moncton Hospital.
Born Decemeber 19, 1927 in Amherst, NS, she was the youngest daughter of the late George and Thelma (MacDonald) MacKenzie.
A caring and loving wife and mother, Jean was employed for many years by National Specialty Company and by Pugsley's Pharmacy in Amherst.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Janet of Halifax; two sons, Peter (Aileen) of Bridgewater, NS and James "Jamie" Smith of South Athol. She is also survived by two grandsons, Michael (Rachel) and Matthew (Crystal); three great grandchildren, MacKenzie, Kelsey and Garreck; two sisters, Elizabeth of Saint John and Catherine (Arnold) Blenkhorn of Athol; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to AH Brown Funeral Home, 5 MacFarlane Street, Springhill (597-2361). Honouring Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Southampton, NS.
Appreciation is expressed to Gables Lodge, Amherst, for care during the time she was a resident there, and for the wonderful care provided by her doctors, nurses and other staff at the Moncton Hospital during her last days.
