It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Jean M. Gould, age 84, of Amherst. Jean passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Gables Lodge on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.
Born in Cap Pele, NB, she was a daughter of the late William and Leita Mattinson.
Jean was a military wife, and was well traveled. She worked at several local banks, and retail outlets. For many years she and her husband were the original owners and operators of Red Wood Take Out in Amherst. Jean had a special way with words, and was well known for her poetry. She received many awards over the years for her beautiful prose and was very proud of the poem she had published. She was a member of the Border Bells Barbershop Singers.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Barbara (Stephen) Touchette, Charlottetown, PE, Brian (Lana), St. Andrew's, NB, Donna (Reginald) Chitty, Halifax, Beverly (Eric) MacKenzie, Amherst, and Richard (Esther) Gould, Tidnish, NS, Sharon Horne, Dartmouth, NS; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard and sister Doris Mattinson.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Friday from noon until 2 pm. The funeral service will follow immediately at 2 pm from the funeral home, Deacon Howard Gotell officiating. A time of tea and fellowship will follow in the funeral home reception center. Burial in St. Charles Nativity Cemetery in the spring.
