It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of William Thomas McNeil on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Alder Point on June 25, 1949, he was the son of Nathan and Lorraine (Laffin) McNeil. He was a member of St. Anne parish, Alder Point.
Tommy worked for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality since 1985, and most recently as superintendent of solid waste. He worked as stationary engineer involved in the construction, development and operation of the Cape Breton Regional Incineration Facility with the late Tony Roy. Throughout his life, Tommy worked in various areas of the construction industry.
Most recently, Tommy was looking forward to retirement and spending time with his grandchildren, and spending time in Cape Dauphin.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Judy and sons, Brad (Carmen), Fort St. John, B.C., and Michael (Shauna), Calgary. Also left to mourn are his four grandchildren, Nathan, Parker, Sydney, and Oliver; parents, Nathan and Lorraine McNeil; brothers, Ronnie (Aunt Deb) McNeil, Georges River, Richie (Maryon) McNeil, Bras d’Or ,and Doug (Kim) McNeil, Alder Point; sisters, Jeanie (Dave) Viva, Alder Point, and Alana Briand, North Sydney; brother-in-law, Rob Simm (Bernadette), Sydney Mines, and sister-in-law, Gail Simm, London, Ont.
He was predeceased in infancy by a sister, Mary and brothers, Angus and Russell, grandchildren, Abbigail and Bradley Jr., his grandparents, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation for Tommy McNeil will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. A reception will be held in the Alder Point Community Hall, following the service.
