Crosby, Elizabeth (Betty) Sarah- age 97, passed away in Yarmouth on January 15, 2014. Born in Yarmouth, N.S. on March 15, 1916 she was the daughter of the late Stephen Delancey Moses Killam and Vera Lyle (Churchill) Killam. She was educated in Yarmouth and Liverpool Schools and took the Business Course at Saint Ambrose Convent in Yarmouth in 1936-37. She served as a trustee of the Yarmouth County Museum, member of the first Heritage Committee of Yarmouth, past president of Kritosophian Club (Literary Club), past member of N.S. Centre of Poetry and Writers, and member of the Yarmouth Historical Society. She wrote articles for the Atlantic Advocate, Yarmouth and Liverpool newspapers. She was also a past member of Queens County Museum and a member of Beacon United Church. Betty is survived by son Ian Saunders (Ann), Bedford; daughter Susan Winship (Charles), South Ohio; daughter-in-law Carolyn Saunders, Yarmouth; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by first husband, J. Fenwick Saunders and second husband, Prentice H. Crosby; son, Gary Stephen Saunders; granddaughter, Dara Lynn Saunders; brothers, Bill, Arthur and Garfield. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yarmouth. Visitation was held Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 3 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Sharon Lohnes officiated. Interment will take place in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery in the spring. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives or the Yarmouth Library.
