TOMPKINS, ELVA MARIE - With sad hearts, the family of Elva Marie Tompkins, beloved wife of the late Ashley H. Tompkins, announce her peaceful passing at Pine Grove Nursing Home, Fredericton on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the age of 89. Born June 18, 1924 in Fosterville, NB, Elva was a daughter of the late Hazen and Hazel (McNerlin) Collier. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Journey Wesleyan Church, Fredericton and her church family was an important part of her life. During her working years, Elva was employed at City Motel as a Desk Clerk and she also worked at Zellers and K-Mart, where she made many lasting and treasured friendships. Elva loved and was dearly loved by her family and she will be greatly missed by her daughter Candyce Johnson of Fredericton, her son Lloyd (Marie) of Hanwell and daughter-in-law, Elaine Tompkins of Upper Kingsclear. She was continually delighted by her grandchildren, Tony, Glenwood, Troy, Ricky and Rourke Tompkins, Marc and Shawn Johnson who always held a special place in her heart as did her 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Her brothers, Tom Collier (Gladys) and Sam Collier (Delores) both of Fosterville will forever cherish the memory of their beloved sister. Elva also leaves behind a number of very special nieces and nephews. Elva has now gone on to be reunited with her parents; husband Ashley (1999); son Roy A. Tompkins (2011); granddaughter, Vicki E. Tompkins-Murray (1999); sister’s Mary Spinney and Avis Henry and her brother Lester Collier.
The family will receive condolences at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A service celebrating the life of Elva Marie Tompkins will be held from Journey Wesleyan Church, 131 Duncan Lane, Fredericton on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Matthew Maxwell officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons Tony, Glenwood, Troy, Ricky, Marc and Shawn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rourke Tompkins, Tom and Sam Collier, Murray Thorne, Ron Kirkpatrick and Wayne Craig.
Interment will be held at a later date in the Rural Cemetery, Fredericton. Those wishing to make donations in memory of Elva are asked to consider The Pine Grove Foundation and Journey Wesleyan Church.
