CUMBERLAND, PHYLLIS BERNICE - The passing of Phyllis B. Cumberland of Fredericton occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in St. Stephen, NB on October 29, 1916, the daughter of the late John and Susie (Elkington) Barter, and wife of the late Wilfred “Duke” Cumberland. Phyllis was a retired Office Administrator employed with the University of New Brunswick, a lady who loved music and was an avid piano player all her life. She is survived by a daughter Lynn Pelham (Michael) of Dartmouth; a son Gregg (Judy) of Hanwell; five granddaughters Amanda Pelham of Halifax, Jennifer Griffin Pelham of Newfoundland, Deborah O‘Brien (Patrick) of Moncton, Wendy Cumberland Ketchum (Michael) of Fredericton, and Terri Morris (Gerald) of Georgetown, ON; seven great grandchildren Robert Griffin Pelham, Mariah O’Brien, Marlise O’Brien, Leah Hamill, Katie Hamill, Benjamin Morris and Andrew Morris; a sister Edith Chamberlaine of Halifax; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Basil, Max and Ken Barter, sisters Elsie Webber and Rita Hilton.
Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2014 at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bob Jones officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. A reception will be held at the funeral home immediately following the service. For those who wish memorials to the Fredericton SPCA, the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Windsor Court who took such excellent care of Phyllis.
