It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend, Robert Vincent 'Bob' Cox, age 76, on Thursday, January 23, 2014. Bob passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Northside General Hospital.
Born on Shore Road, Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Richard and Martha (Confiant) Cox.
A kind man of strong faith, Bob believed in living his life by God. He put others before himself and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Bob worked hard from a very young age and had several jobs over his lifetime. His last was long time and well known caretaker at St. Joseph Church where he devoted himself to his work. He always had a smile for anyone coming through the door. Bob was always very active, in his younger years, he was an avid walker, skater and was past Grand Knight of the Father William Kiely Council, Knights of Columbus. He loved being out in the barn, going for drives and spending time with his family and his cats. Bob was friendly and had a good heart. He was a devoted husband and an incredible father. We were very fortunate to be able to care for Bob at home during his entire illness. He was always pleasant, loved to dance and enjoyed his treats, even in his final days, he still loved to smile.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Bridget (Jessome) Cox; his daughter and best friend, Caroline; his brothers David (Nellie) Cox, John Cox, Harold (Jane) Cox, Louis Cox (Shirley Robinson), all of North Sydney, Michael Cox, Massachusetts and Clifford (Cathy) Cox, Alberta; his sister Marion MacKinnon, Sydney, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters Ella MacKinnon, Caroline Holyoke and Irene Neil.
Honoring his wishes there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass for Bob will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
In Bob’s memory, do something kind for someone.
